Based on the mandate granted to the Independent National Commission of Inquiry into the events of El-Fasher as well as the accompanying human rights violations, alleged crimes against civilians and prisoners of war (POWs), and in accordance with the powers vested in the Commission by the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office; the Commission wishes to inform the public that it has completed the initial hearing and investigation phase with the accused, Abu Lulu, one of the individuals suspected of involvement in the violations that occurred during the fighting in El-Fasher.<\/p>\n

The accused was interrogated in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code of (1991), the Sudanese Penal Code of (1991), and relevant International Conventions, particularly the International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Conventions relating to the treatment of POWs as well as the protection of civilians during armed conflicts.<\/p>\n

During the investigation sessions, the Commission adhered to all standards of justice, transparency, and integrity, guaranteeing the accused his legal rights, including the right to defense, confidentiality of proceedings, and independent legal oversight.<\/p>\n

The Commission visited the locations of POWs, the wounded and injured as a result of the war as well, in an effort to ensure that they enjoy all human rights guaranteed and protected by the Constitution, the Law, and International Conventions.<\/p>\n

The Independent National Commission affirms that it will continue to carry out its professional duties, free from any political or military influence, and is committed to uncovering the full facts to the public and submitting its final report to the competent judicial authorities as soon as the other stages of investigation are completed, in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures.<\/p>\n

The Commission calls on citizens and the media to strive to ensure accuracy and responsibility in reporting information related to the investigation, respecting the principle of presumption of innocence and ensuring the integrity of the justice system.<\/p>\n
